کتاب Ready for IELTS، از کتاب های آموزش زبان انگلیسی برای آماده‌سازی افراد در آزمون بین‌المللی آیلتس طراحی شده است. این کتاب شامل طیف گسترده‌ای از فعالیت‌ها با هدف بهبود زبان انگلیسی داوطلبان آزمون آیلتس و توسعه مهارت‌های زبان است که افراد برای بهبود امتیاز به آن نیاز دارند.

علاوه بر ارائه تمرینات جامع در هر یک از مهارت‌های خواندن (Reading)، نوشتن (Writing)، گوش دادن  (Listening) و صحبت کردن (Speaking)، هر یک از دروس Ready for IELTS شامل یک یا چند بخش تمرکز بر زبان است که مباحث دستوری (Grammar) اصلی مورد نیاز برای امتحان را به همراه بخش‌های واژگان (Vocabulary) و ایجاد کلمه تجزیه و تحلیل می‌کند.‌ در نقاط مختلف کتاب، افراد با بخش‌های متنوعی مواجه می‌شوند که هریک را توضیح داده و معرفی می‌کنیم:

(What to expect in the exam): این بخش اطلاعات مفیدی برای هر یک از بخش‌های آزمون به افراد ارائه می‌دهد.

(How to go about it): این‌ بخش‌ها، توصیه‌ها و راهنمایی‌هایی در مورد نحوه برخورد با انواع مختلف سوالات خاص ارائه می‌دهند.

(Don't forget): این موارد نکات مهمی را که هنگام پاسخ به یک نوع سوال خاص باید در نظر داشته باشید را یادآوری می‌کنند.

(Useful expressions): این بخش شامل واژگان، عبارات و بخش‌هایی از جملات هستند که به زبان‌آموزان در تکمیل تمرینات کمک می‌کند.

کتاب فوق، از چهارده درس تشکیل شده که به موضوعات تخصصی و پرکاربرد آزمون آیلتس پرداخته‌اند. همچنین در پایان هر درس، یک بخش مروری (Review) آورده شده که محتویات درس را در آزمون آیلتس به خوبی نشان می‌دهد. در پایان هر سه درس، بخشی به نام (Ready For) آورده شده که نقطه قوت این کتاب نسبت به کتاب‌های مشابه محسوب می‌شود و اطلاعات تکمیلی و مشاوره‌ای در خصوص آزمون آیلتس و به آزمون‌دهندگان ارائه می‌دهد.

 We are all friends now

Vocabulary: Describing people

Work in pairs. Describe what is happening in each of the photographs. Then discuss
the questions below.

Do the photographs give you any clues about the personalities of the people in them?
Which, if any, of the people would you like to be friends with? Why?

 Match the people in each photograph with one or more of the adjectives below. Give at
least one reason for each choice.
Example:
The woman in picture 3 looks very conscientious because she seems to be working late.

 For nouns 1-8 below, decide whether the adjective ends in: -al, -ed, -ent, -able, -ing, -ful
or -ous. There may be more than one possible answer.

 Work in pairs. Each of the items 1-8 below describe people. Match each item to an
adjective from exercise 3 above.
My grandfather tells jokes all the time and makes us all laugh.
He knows a great deal about many subjects, including science, geography and history.
My sister plays the piano exceptionally well. I hope to be as good as her one day.
She's never late for any appointments, and hates it when people aren't on time.
Olga knows she is very good at her job and always takes the lead in business meetings.
She gives a lot of money away to charities and to people who need it.
When Mary was younger, she devoted her time to looking after seriously ill people.
She loves being around people all the time, meeting and making friends.

 (!) Think of a friend who has one or more of the qualities above. With a partner,
describe the friend by explaining the qualities they have.
(D How would you describe yourself? Write down three adjectives and show the words
to your partner. Ask each other about them.
What numbers and letters do you find difficult to understand? Write them down and
then give them to a partner. Ask him/her to dictate the letters and numbers to you in any
order, for example, f-p-t-f-g-j-l-m-f-b-d. Write down the letters you hear.
